Understanding Sri Yantra Meaning in Vedic Astrology

The Sri Yantra is a sacred instrument that is formed by interlocking nine triangles which surround and radiate out from the central point known as bindu. This point represents the point between the physical universe and its unmanifest source. This yantra represents the goddess in her Sri Lalita form which is also known as 'Tripura Sundari' that represents the combination of the beauty of the three worlds, heaven, hell and earth. Worshipping Sri Yantra, which is also known as Shir Chakra is related to the Shir Vidya system of Hindu Worship. It represents the unification of the masculine and feminine and it does so with the help of four isosceles triangles pointing upwards which represent the masculine or Shiva and four isosceles triangles pointing downwards which represents the female part or Shakti. This yantra is also called Navayoni Chakra because it is composed of nine triangles. These yantras are of different shapes and sizes and intersect each other at various points.

Sri Yantra Benefits / Speciality

At the middle of this yantra is the bindu which symbolizes the highest, the invisible and the elusive centre from which the entire figure and the cosmos expands. The triangles are represented in a lotus from, enclosed by two rows of 8 and 16 petals each. The outer lines of the frame are broken which represents the figure like a sanctuary that has four openings to the regions of the universe. The nine triangles intersect each other to form 43 smaller triangles that denote the cosmos or a womb symbolic of creation. All of these triangles together express advaita or non-duality. This in turn is surrounded by a lotus formed of eight petals, a lotus formed of sixteen petals and a square that represents a temple with four doors. There are various deities who reside in the nine layers of the yantra and all of these deities have been described in the Devi Khadgamala Mantra. This yantra is also known by other names like Sri Chakra, nav chakra etc, as we can see nine levels in it.

These nine levels are as follows -

- Trailokya Mohan or Bhupar - it is a square which has three lines and four portals.
- Sarva Aasa Paripurak - it is a lotus consisting of sixteen petals.
- Sarva Sankshobahan - it is a lotus consisting of eight petals.
- Sarva Saubhagyadayak - it is made up of fourteen small triangles.
- Sara Arthasadhak - it is made up of ten small triangles.
- Sarva Rakshakar - it is made up of ten small triangles.
- Sarva Rogahar - it is made up of eight small triangles.
- Sarva Siddhiprada - it is made up of one small triangle
- Sarva Anandamay - it is made up of one point or bindu.

The Sri Yantra is based on the hindu philosophy of Kashmir Shaivism and is an important symbol of hindu tantra. It is also considered to be an object of devotion in Sri Vidya. It is a representation of Lalita Mahatriputrasundari which is an aspect of Parvati devi.
