Tulsi Manas Temple is one of the popular temples of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. It is dedicated to god ram. The temple is adjacent to Durga Temple of Varanasi. Tulsi Manas Temple is engraved with historical and religious significance to Varanasi as well as the entire country. The temple is well-known as the place where sacred Hindu epic Ramayana was composed.

Tulsi Manas Temple Religious Significance

Tulsi Manas Temple has high religious significance since Ramayana was composed in this place. It is bestowed with lord Ram as a god. However, before turning into a god, lord Ram was regarded as a king. However, in his book, Tulsidas formed a god out of Ram and he begin to win over the hearts of many Indians regardless of religion. Every year during January or February month, Tulsi Manas Temple organise a fair which attracts considerable number of devotees. Furthermore, Tulsi Manas Temple also celebrates festival such as Ram Navami. On this occasion, one week fair is organised. The other popular celebrations of the temple are Janmasthtami and Vaishakh Utsav among others.

Tulsi Manas Temple Mythology & History

Tulsi Manas Temple has interesting history as it is considered that Tulsidas written the popular Hindu epic Ramayana in this place. The original Ramayana was written in Sanskrit language and hence, it was beyond the comprehension of majority of individuals. There are very few persons who have mastered Sanskrit language and therefore can versed well. As a result, considerable number of people were deprived of such eccentric legendary story of Ram. Knowing this, Tulsidas took the duty of composing the Ramayana from Sanskrit to Hindi at the very spot of Tulsi Manas Temple.

The composition made by Tulsidas was named as Ram Charit Manas which soon gained huge reputation. He acclaimed and represented lord Ram as a great sovereign. Devotees began to praise him after the creation of Hindi version of Ramayana. In his version, lord Ram was blessed with supreme dignity and many virtues. His countryman adored him as god. By composing Ramayana, Tulsidas had made a niche for himself in the storybook world. Many years later, a temple was constructed for giving tribute to lord Ram at the location where Tulsidas had written about him. Tulsi Manas Temple is regarded as the symbol of respect and reverence for Tulsidas.

Tulsi Manas Temple Architectural Significance

The architecture of Tulsi Manas Temple is identified with decorative features. Its attractiveness rests in the simplicity of the temple. Tulsi Manas Temple was created in the year 1964 by white marble. The temple is quite amiable and have delightful background around it. The walls of Tulsi Manas Temple are ornamented with verses and scenes from Ramayana. In the right side of the main gateway of Tulsi Manas Temple, there is a beautiful Tulsi Garden with peaceful and hygienic environment. In the garden, there is a statue of Tulsidas. In the left side of the main temple, there is a lovely pool with four banks. There are four statues installed on every bank of the pool, having diverse themes of Ramayana. For example, the northern bank of the pool has a statue of god Shiv and the western bank of the pool has a statue of Tulsidas.

Inside the Tulsi Manas Temple there is a big complex of Manas Temple with three impressive shrines. In the centre of Tulsi Manas Temple, there is a Ram Darbar where idols of god Shiv and goddess Durga is situated. Furthermore, there is also idols of god Ganesh and other Hindu divinities. Apart from that there are statues of several saints in Tulsi Manas Temple which are cited in Ramayana.
