Sri Subrahmanya Swamy Temple Architectural Significance

The chief architect of this temple was Padmashri Silpi Kalanidhi Shri Ganapathy Sthapathy who did the attractive design, master planning and personal supervision as a voluntary service in the construction of the temple. The main tower or Rajagopuram was built in traditional Chola style and pattern. It was built in line with the famous south Indian Hindu temples Palamudhircholai, Thiruthani, Swamimalai, Palani, Thiruchendur, Thiruparankundram, the Aarupadaiveedu and the Brihadeeswara Temple at Tanjavur. The pillars and ceiling of this temple are religiously inscribed with tales and stories. The interior and exterior decoration of this temple is really a wonder to be witnessed by visitors and devotees. The temple is a walled complex with many several temples within its premises. The flooring and its design are very attractive in different aspects. The steps of the temples are carved in a beautiful manner.

Festivals at Sri Subrahmanya Swamy Temple

Sri Subrahmanyaswamy Devalayam or Sri Subramanyaswami temple conducts Brahmotsavam is performed during the month of May-June or Vaikasi every year on a religious manner. In a grand manner, special poojas and arthi to all the deities are performed on every Fridays and Tuesday with large scale participation of local devotees. The other significant festivals that are celebrated on this temple are Sri Vinayaka Chaturthi, Aadi Krithigai, Sankatahara Chaturti for Sri Sundara Vinayagar, Subbaraya Sashti, Mahasivarathri, Thai Poosam, Sharadha Navarathri, Vasantha Navarathri and Mahaskanda Sashti. In this temple, certain different types of Vedic related Poojas are performed with a lot of perfection.

Sri Subrahmanya Swamy Temple History

In 1961, a large group of ardent and enthusiastic followers of Sri Subrahmanyaswamy formed the Sri Subrahmanya Swamy Aadi Krithigai Laksharchana Committee under the able leadership of Sri P Nataraja Iyer and Sri R Rajagopala Iyer. This particular committee largely celebrated Aadi during the Krithigai festival in different halls and temples in Secundrabad. Later they unanimously decided to build a temple for their Lord. The committee received a large piece of Land on the Hillock from a donor with the advice and suggestion of His Holiness Sri Jagadguru Sankaracharya of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam and Paramacharya Pujya Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal. The temple was inaugurated on 26 August 1968.
