Sri Shani Mahatma Temple is most feared and sacred temple of the Hindu religion. All shani dosha currently affected peoples come here and offer prayers and perform rituals as per his birth chart. The common pooja material is the Ellu seeds and the gingili oil. Some time peoples have to go around this temple premises for a 100 rounds, few have to stay here for 2-3 days and perform sacred rituals in the day and night times and few can join the mass rituals conducted daily for lesser affected peoples of shani dosha. Saturday of every week is attracted by many of its devotees to perform rituals and attend the special pooja conducted here. Many pilgrims come here with devotion and with fear too.
The Rathoutsavam is the main festival conducted here annually. This festival attracts thousands of devotees here. The main deity is taken out in the temple chariot and goes around this village. It is worshiped by its villagers when the chariots come to their area and give offering to this god.
The Shanishwara is believed to be the son of Sun God or the Surya Bhagavan as per the Hindu's mythology. He was born to Chaya Devi who was his 2nd wife of Surya Bhagawan. Shanishwara was an incarnation of the Saturn Planet which is occupying the sixth position in our solar system. This planet or the Shani has bad effect on the human lives and can be lessened with special poojas and rituals. Planet Saturn literally means Shani Graha and the god of this planet is called as Shanishwara by the Hindus.
Sri Shani Mahatma Temple was built by its local resident known as the Ganga Hanumaiah, who was a farmer by profession. He built this in Dravidian model with a beautiful gopura on its main structure. This temple is found in a rectangular shape. The entire temple structure is built out of granite stones. Its entrance has a large gopura with beautiful carvings of tiny sculptures on it. These tiny sculptures are painted with multi colors. A large mandapa is seen here which has unique single stone pillars. The entire roof top is filled with frieze, each one having unique sculptures of Hindu mythology and looking very lovely. There are also many motifs seen on the edges of this temple. The main structure has a stone roof. The main deity is placed in the garbhagraha in the central area of this temple. The temple chariot is found here which is made of wood and looking good in its carving works.
