According to the local legends, Musi River or Muchukunda River originates a few miles away from Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple. With the blessing of this particular termple, the river travel nearly 90 kilometers to the western side of Hyderabad plus directly flowed due eastern side for almost its entire given course and floods Himayathsagar and Osmansagar.
