Narasimha Jhira Cave Temple at Bidar is an ancient cave temple of Lord Narasimha. This is one of the rear cave temple to have perennial cave water present inside this caves throughout the year. It will be an adventure experience to walk around this cave temple with a waist level water to reach its main Garbha Graha. It is beautifully located at Bidar District of Karnataka State in India.

Narasimha Jhira Cave Temple Religious Significance

Lord Narasimha is a half human and half animal as per mythic beliefs. He is a mighty god for the Hindus. Many take pilgrim to this holy place to get blessing from this god. Many devotees like to shave their head from this temple as a personal sacrifice of hair to this temple. There are two main deities inside this cave. One is the man deity of Lord Narashima and the other is the Shiva Linga. Both of the deities are placed in two different corners of the caves. Worshiping both the gods at a time is considered to be very sacred. There are also its sub deities on the outside of these caves. They are the Hanuman and Vinayaka temples. All Pilgrims and devotees first worship the outside temples and enter this cave temple. Lord Hanuman is known for the strengths and he must be worshiped first before entering this caves temple. Devotees used to bring all pooja materials and eatables to gods and get blessed by the poojaris of this temple and can provide floral offerings to gods.

Narasimha Jhira Cave Temple Mythology & History

As per mythology, once in ancient times there was a bad demon named the Jalasura (water demon). The Lord Narashima came down to earth to kill this demon, but the demon informed, he is a Shiva devotee and he is being worshiping him in this cave. He asked Narasimha to make him a good name after his death. Narasimha killed him and he flowed like water inside this cave. Since then, this cave was known as the Jhira Narasmiha Caves. To reach its main deity one has to walk on this cave waters. In this way the Jalasura is been remembered as a good demon. The water never dries up in the summer season and this cave's is always filled with water.

Narasimha Jhira Cave Temple Architectural Significance

Narasimha Jhira Cave Temple is an ancient rock cut cave temple. This is found to be a huge monolith rock; this is very uniquely carved and found with perennial flow of water throughout the year. This cave is a 300 feet curved tunnel having the main deity of Lord Narasimha on the edge of the caves walls. This deity is known to be a self manifestation. The water inside the cave is up to 4 feet height. The outside this cave temple is also seen with few temple complexes. There is a cute Hanuman temple built, which is always seen with Common languor monkeys. A small Vinayaka temple is also present here. There is a samadhi of Manicka Prabhu, who sacrificed his life time serving this temple and was a great devotee too. A rock cut temple pond is here, which all devotees must take a bath and enter this cave temple. There is also a Gomuka Thirtha, water coming out of a sculptor in the shape of cow's mouth attached to a water tank. Here all devotees used to wash their feet. A uniquely carved single stone tower lamp is built, which is always kept glowing from the ancient times by the devotees Recently added values to this temples are the air conditions and the ventilations attached to this caves for the convince for its pilgrims.
