Naag Devatha is associated with Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. According to the local legends, most of the people undergo sufferings in their personal and professional life due to various types of Doshams related to serpent. These dosham can be rectified by conducting powerful dosham rectifying poojas, homams, yagnas and other religious activities with a lot of perfection. There are certain days and particular timings for indulging in these activities by the devotees at this temple premises.
According to the local legends, a British official suddenly directed his army men to immediately demolish Nag Mandir. On a Friday, this temple was fully demolished in the personal presence of British official. Then, on the very following Friday surprisingly the British official, pet dog and his horse were found dead just before the shrine. After 7 years, Sree Jayalakshmi Amma Guru who was a local resident of this area had the initial darshan of Goddess Naga Devi or Nag mata at the scared sight. She started Goddess Nagmata regularly. Later, Amma Garu along with her close friends, relatives and family members initially started the shrine's construction, according to the orders of Naga Devatha. During the period of construction work, Military personnel ordered to stop the work. They fenced the constructed area of the shrine. One day, a military guard on night duty had the darshan of Naga Devatha. Then, the construct started again in full-fledged. Most of the Military officer along with the family members, relatives and close friends regularly visited this temple to rectifying their mistake.
Nag Mandir in Secunderabad has built as per the local architectural styles and pattern of this region. The main gate has a medium height tower or Vihmana. It is a walled temple with entrance and exist gate. The walls are of medium height. The sub-temples are arranged in a unique manner in this temple premises. The temple prayer hall can accommodate a good number of devotees during the religious functions and activities on festive and auspicious days. The prayer hall's pillars have images of local Gods and Goddess. The temple's Vihmana also have good carving related to the tales of Naag Devetha.
At Nag Mandir, Tripindi Shraddha Pooja, Mahamrutunjay Jaap havan pooja, Kalsarpa Shanti Pooja and Narayan Nagbali Pooja are conducted in a religious manner on all auspicious and festive days. The Nag Purnami festival is marked in a grand manner. Various types of homams are conducted at this shrine such as Sri Suktha Homa, Yagna for World Peace, Maha Mrithyunjaya Homa, Saraswati homam, Nava Graha Homa, Maha Sudarsana Homa, Maha Devi Homa, Pitru Yagna, Gayatri Homa and Graha Santi Homa. The poojas held at this temple are Ganapathy Puja, Saraswathi Puja, Durga Puja, Subramanya Puja, Maha Lakhmi Puja, Shiva Shakti Puja, Sarva Aishwarya Puja, Gayathri Puja, Kali Puja and Nava graha Puja.
