Aurangabad Temples, Maharashtra »


The Grishneshwar Temple better known as the Jyotirlinga of Grishneshwar is a shrine of the Lord Shiva. It is one of twelve Jyotirlingas present in India. The temple can be witnessed at a small village near Daulatabad named as Verul. The village is just 30 kilometres away from the city of Aurangabad of Maharashtra. The ancient Ellora caves are placed at a very short distance from this religious temple. Kusumeswarar, Grishneswara and Ghushmeswara are some of the names given to this temple by its devotees.



The temple of Kailasa also termed as the Kailashnath temple is a temple brought up as an honor to Lord Shiva. The temple was placed inside the Ellora caves. It is at a distance of 30 kilometres from the populous city of Aurangabad of Maharashtra. The total area of this temple is extended by a massive area of 2 kilometres. The site of the temple is one of the 34 monasteries dug out by the Archaeological Department of India. Though, the actual date of establishment of this ancient piece of architecture was not known.


Kolhapur Temples, Maharashtra »


The Jyotiba Temple is one of the distinct and sacred places of western India. It was established in the district of Kolhapur near the Ratangiri Wadi (valley) of Maharashtra. The temple is dedicated to the deity of Lord Jyotiba. The temple is at an elevation of about 330 metres above the sea level. It is believed that the body of Lord Jyotiba is formed from the mixture of three souls namely, the Brahma, the Vishnu and the Shiva.



The temple of Khidrapur or Kopeshwar Temple is situated in the city of Khidrapur of Maharashtra. The temple is also presumed as one of finest structures depicting the ancient historical and architectural features of India. During the ancient Satvanah dynasty in 11th century this remarkable monument was established. Though, the temple is still holding its presence but some parts of it are majorly destructed under the cruel kingdom of Aurangzeb.



The Mahalaxmi Temple of Kolhapur is one of the finest and significantly religious places of India. As recommended by the name, the temple is devoted to the 'goddess of wealth' Mahalaxmi. She was the consort of Lord Vishnu and many people still believe that these godly couple exists in this temple. Out of the 108 "Shakti Peethas" present in India, this temple is one of them. 'Shakti' means power, so it denotes that goddess Mahalaxmi was a 'power goddess'.

The Temple of Mumba Devi or better named as the Mumba Devi Mandir in Marathi is one of the few historical and religious temples present in Mumbai. It is resided near the Zaveri Bazaar situated at Bhuleshwar in South Mumbai. It was established almost 300 years ago at 1737 AD. Although, the temple at Zaveri Bazaar is considered as the real one but it is not the original location of this temple. The original structure of this sacred temple was erected way back in 17th century in 1675 AD.

The main significance of this Hindu temple is not about gods but the worship of a great man called as Shri Swaminarayan. Sahajanand Swami was the actual name of Shri Swaminarayan.



Walkeshwar temple of South Mumbai also known as the Baan Ganga Temple is one of the unique and ethnic religious places existing in the beautiful city of Mumbai. The highest point of the Malabar hill at the Banganga Road is the actual location of this exceptional temple. The temple of Walkeshwar was a dedication to the great Lord Shiva. A freshwater reservoir named as the Banganga tank is attached to this temple.

The temple was erected for the worship of Lord Bhavani. She was a goddess of supreme power as believed by the local inhabitants. Tulja Bhavani temple can be sited at a distance of 45 kilometres from Solapur at Tuljapur in the district of Osmanabad of Maharashtra.


Pune Temples, Maharashtra »


The temple of Bhimashankar is one of the oldest located shrines of Jyotirlinga (Lord Shiva) in India. It was actually based 50 kilometres to the north-western region of Khed residing close to district Pune in Maharashtra. The Sahyadri mountain range is in the vicinity of this place so it can be suggested that the shrine is sited at a higher altitude from the sea-level.



The Chaturshringi Temple is one of the most prominent religious places for the citizens of Maharashtra. It is Hindu temple placed at a small hillock located on the Senapati Bapat Road in Pune. The temple was established under the dynasty of Marathas by one of their most significant leader Chhatrapati Shivaji Raje Bhosle. However, the temple is permanently controlled by the several trustees and the local inhabitants residing beside this temple.



The Dagadusheth Temple or better known as the Sreemant Dagadusheth Halwai Ganapati temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha. It is placed in the traditional city of Pune of Maharashtra. Due to its religious importance devotees like the Chief Minister and other ministers of the Mumbai Mantralaya visits here more frequently for worshipping the deity of Lord Ganesha.
