Kukke Subramanya Temple is a famous temple to get rid of Kala Sarpa Dosha in south India, according to the Hindu beliefs. This is an ancient temple beautifully located in the Western Ghats of Karnataka District. This temple is of foremost importance of peoples affected by the Dosha's (Sin's) of Sarpa (Serpent), Naga, Khuja, Kala Sarpa and infertility issues in married couples. It is really a divine place and is the only temple in the south India for Snake worship. This place is blessed with divinity and its surrounding hills do have a serpent hood shape on the top of its hill. Its main deity is the Lord Subramanya, who is the God of all Snakes as per the Hindu mythical believes. It is uniquely located near the banks of Dhara River and the Kumara Hills foot hills. This temple is in Subramanya Village, Kukke Town, Dakshina Kanada District of Karnataka State in India.

Kukke Subramanya Temple's main visitors on daily basis are the Hindu peoples suffering from the Kala Sarpa Dosha. Peoples have to book in advance to perform these rituals on behalf of this temple. It takes a two days time to complete these rituals. One has to take bath from the Kumara Dhara River and come here for the rituals. The peoples affected with Sarpa Dosha are always advised by the astrologers to visit this temple and get cleared by this sin's of snakes. This dosha mostly affects the martial life and get much hindrance in getting married. The other married peoples come here, who have infertility problems. It is a belief that after performing the Sarpasankramana the sin's are cleared and they will get married within 3 months of time and unable to conceive couples will get conceived with in 3 month from the day this Dosha rituals was performed from this temple. Fees are there to perform these rituals by its temple priests and all lodging accommodation is provided by this temple trust. This temple is always crowded with devotees and one can find this temple will be very clean irrespective of its mass crowd inside this temple. Its main festival is conducted in the month of November and is known as Lakshadeepotsava. It also conducts the annual car festival, where the Subramanya Swamy is taken out in the chariot. Apart from the Sarpasankramana pojjas, this temple also conducts its normal poojas to its pilgrims and other devotees who have not come to perform Sarpasankramana.

Kukke Subramanya Temple Mythology & History

As per the mythological story, this place was a dense forest and filled with many varieties of snakes living in a harmony state. The Garuda (Kite) were destroying these snakes drastically as the snake was their main hunted creature on earth. Knowing this the Naga Raja came to its protection from the Garuda's and safeguarded this place. The snake god is the Subramaniya Swamy; hence a temple was built here for him with his snakes here in the later years.

Kukke Subramanya Temple Architectural Significance

This temple is built the Dravidian architectural style. A huge four pillared porch is found on the entrance. It is having an obelisk tower on it's with lot of carving and miniature works. The entire sculptures of deities found here are of various snakes carved on the stones. These are found with single head to a multiple head snakes on stone art. There are also brass sculptors of snake model with many large hoods. The interior of this temple is perfectly built to conduct mass rituals. There are many wooden art works found here. This temple has got a wooden Chariot made of woods and looks marvelous.
