Lord Shiva is worshiped here as the Ettumanoor Appan by the Hindu Keralite's. The word Mahadevar is kept here for the Supreme Being, which is Lord Shiva himself. Here the Lord Shiva is worshiped in the Linga form, which is the symbol of fertility as per the Hindu beliefs. Many devotees believe that the Linga of this temple was given by the Lord himself to the Sage Khara Prakasha. Subrahmanya is also known as Karthikeya apart from Dravidian regions. In Kerala he is known as the Subrahmanya Swamy. His other names are Mail Vahanan, Murugan, Senthil, Velan, Kandan, Kadamban, Arumugam and Shanmugam. He is the God's army and a symbol of victory. His bird is the peacock and his weapon is called as Vel. Many devotees come here to get their new ventures to be successful by offering prayers and rituals to Lord Subrahmanya in this temple. He is also known as the Devasenapathi and many devotees do worship him by this name apart from naming him as Subrahmanya Swamy.



The Panachikkadu Saraswathi Temple is seen as Swaraswathi in her natural form; since many Hindus believe this temple's main deity is found in a natural spring and water always touch her feet surrounded with Saraswathi leaves in a spring pond. Because Saras literally means stream of waters and Swathi is honoring a women. The Himalayan River is also called in her name as Saraswathi River. Hence the Swaraswathi Devi is worshiped here with great devotion to see in her natural state.



This is also called as the Kailas of the south. Since, the Lord Shiva himself gave the Linga to worship for his devotees. There are three such Lingas situated in different temples. One of such important temple is Vaikom Mahadeva Temple. Devotees coming to this temple and going to the other two temple is equivalent to going to Kailas is the beliefs of the Hindus.
