Jagannath Temple is located on Road number 12, in Banjara Hills, in Hyderabad district, in the state of Telangana, in South India. The primary deity of this temple is Jagannath. The significant festival of this particular temple is the annual Rath Yatra that is participated by thousands of adherent and enthusiastic devotees. There are 5 major temples within the temple complex. It was successfully constructed in 2009 by Kalinga Cultural Trust, located in Hyderabad.

Jagannath Temple Religious Significance

The Jagannath Temple is a modern Hindu temple largely built by the Hyderabadi Oriya community dedicated to Lord Jagannath. It is to be remembered that Lord Jagannath literally means "Lord of the Universe". It is to be remembered that Lord Jagannath is worshiped by the Hindu devotees of Odisha, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Assam, Bihar, Tripura and Manipur and by Hindus devotees in Bangladesh. This particular Lord is regarded as a form of Lord Krishna or Lord Vishnu by the Hindus. Lord Jagannath is worshipped with dedication and commitment as part of a triad on the "Ratnavedi" along with his sister Subhadra and brother Balabhadra.

Jagannath Temple Architectural Significance

The Jaganath Temple of Hyderabad is the best replica of Puri's Jagannath Temple in the state of Odhisa in context of its architectural style, pattern and design. Its "Shikhara" is nearly 70 feet in height which is the best attractive feature of this temple structure. It is to be noted that approximately 600 tonnes of sand stones of red color were brought from the state of Odhissa and used in its construction. Nearly 60 stone carvers were engaged to work in its construction activities. Within the temple complex, there are large shrines that are largely dedicated to Lord Shiva, Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ganesh, Lord Hanuman and Navagrahas. The sanctum sanctorum perfectly houses Jagannath with his siblings Devi Subhadra and Lord Balabhadra. The Kalinga style of architecture style, pattern and design are largely used in the construction of this particular temple. The temple premises consist of five chariots or Pancharatha that are one ratha, two konaka and two anurathas. There are also well-developed pagas with a lot of perfection. It is to be remembered that "Jumping Lion" or "Jhampasimhas" plus "elephant lions" or "Gajasimhas" are properly placed in the temple structures. It is a pancharatha temple that is largely developed based on Nagara-rekha temple with Oriya style of subdivisions which is really unique and comes with the Pada, Kani, Kumbha, Pata and Vasanta. The Vimana has Kalasa and Amalakashila. The images carved on the walls of this temple and its premises speak a volume of tales and stories related to Lord Jagannath to a great extent.

Festivals at Jagannath Temple

Jagannath Temple of Hyderabad is popular for its annual Rath Yathra. It is conducted in the same form as it happens in Puri Jagannath temple in the state of Odhissa. The Oriya community people turn out in large number with family members, relatives and close friends on this occasion in order to make it a grand success. The colorful Rath Yathra is performed in the Odhissa's traditional and cultural manner with a lot of perfection in Hyderabad. Even the local people admire this event wholeheartedly with their participation. Most of the usual Hindi festivals as per the Hindu calendar are marked with special poojas in this particular temple. The rituals are conducted according to the ancient Hindu rules and regulation to a great extent. The priests of this temple possess vast experience and religious qualification.
