The major festival that is celebrated by the temple is Janamastami, as it the day when Lord Krishna was born. It is during this festive month when the temple undergoes many celebrations as well as religious activities. The entire temple is decorated beautifully with flowers and proper arrangements are made for the guests who visit the temple during this festival. It is said that by having a glimpse of Lord Krishna, one tends to be free from all the sins of his previous birth.
It is said that the main developer of the temple has always been Lord Krishna who tends to arrange everything. However, the devotee who from the beginning has taken up the task of developing the temple is Gopala Krishna Goswami. It was Gopala Krishna Goswami who took the responsibility to make people aware of Lord Krishna. According to Gopala Krsna Goswami, when Prabhupada was alive, he told Goswami regarding his desire to have a big project in Delhi. In order to fulfill the desires, both of them visited several places of Delhi in order to attain land. However, the land could not be attained when Prabhuprada was on this earth. Hence, in order to fulfill the desires of this soul Goswami initiated the task of acquiring land in Delhi. Acquiring land in Delhi is a troublesome task. Nonetheless, with the assistance of Education Minister Mrs. Sheela Kohl and the Chairman of the Delhi Development Authority named as Mr. Jagmohan, the land was acquired. The vision of the project was not merely to build a temple but also make it as an educational as well as cultural project.
The temple tends to look majestic from its outer appearance and appears to be spacious from inside. The tall spires seem to be magnificent when they are lit brightly in the night. In order to reach the main holy place, a person needs to climb certain steps. On the way you can visit shops where you can get numerous holy materials. On the other side, you can see fountains that tend to add to its charm. The main shrine has a big hall where you can see three shrines located in three different spires. Idols of Radha-Krishna, Sita-Ram and Gaura-Nital can be viewed in these three different spires. The idols have been designed so beautifully that they are worth seeing. Each idol has been adorned with heavy clothes as well as jewelry. In the hall, devotees can hear the sound of Hare Rama Hare Krishna continuously which makes their visit an interesting journey. Paintings from Russian painters can also be gazed inside the temple.
