Garh Ganesh Temple is located on the hills near Jaigarh Fort and Nahargarh Fort, in the district of Jaipur, in the state of Rajasthan, in Northwestern India. It is an ancient Hindu temple in this state. This shrine is largely dedicated to Lord Ganesha. According to the local legends and religious scholars, in this temple, Lord Ganesh is in the form of a small child who is named as Purushakriti and affectionately called as Vigra Purushakriti that literally means a Ganesha without trunk. It is one of the rarest Ganesha statue installed in this form of a Child Ganesha in a Hindu temple in India.

Garh Ganesh Temple Religious Significance

As per the local Historians, Garh Ganesha temple was build in a successful manner by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh - I when he wholeheartedly performed the yagna called "Ashwamegha Yagya" just before the establishment of the city of Jaipur. It was he who constructed this shrine and installed the statue of Lord Ganesha. It is strongly believed that only after that he placed the foundation stone of the city of Jaipur. The surprising element of this temple and the king is that he placed the statue in such a manner that Maharaja could be directly able to personally see the statue with the assistance of then advanced binoculars installed in his Chandra Mahal of City Palace situated in the heart of Jaipur. This particular shrine also has 'Dhwajadheesh' Ganesha's temple of Bari-Chaupar as its main part.

Garh Ganesh Temple Architectural Significance

Garh Ganesh Temple is based on the medieval Rajasthani Hindu architectural styles and pattern with a lot of perfection. The idol of Lord Ganesha is very attractive and installed in the raised platform in the main sanctum. The main door of the main sanctum is built in such a manner that it can be clearly viewed through the binocular from Chandra Mahal of City palace situated in Jaipur. The ceiling and flooring are very attractive because of its unique floral design pattern and Rajasthani cultural styles. The tower of the main sanctum is moderate in height on the hillock. The wooden main door of the main sanctum and its related sub-temples needs special mention because of its unique wood carving and its cultural design patterns. The sub-temples located in this shrine complex are much smaller in size than the main sanctum. The sub-temples are arranged in a systematic manner as per Vasthusastra. The prayer hall of this temple is large in size that can accommodate hundred of devotees at a time for prayer meetings and other cultural program. The fleets of steps towards the main sanctum and sub-temples are permanently fixed. The fleets of steps to the temple premises are also beautifully carved with hard black stones.

Festivals at Garh Ganesh Temple

At Garh Ganesh Temple, a five day fair is conducted on the eve of On the Ganesh Chaturthi in Bhadrapad Shukla Paksha every year. On the other hand on the First Wednesday immediately after Diwali, is celebrated as anna-koot in this shrine. In Paush month's last Wednesday is celebrated as Paush Bade in this temple in a religious manner. It is to be remembered that 'Audhchya' family is overlooks the complete arrangement and management of the shrine and its related religious affairs, functions and activities to a great extent. At present, the temple is administered and managed by the 13th priest of the temple. At this temple, most of the customs and tradition followed are belonging to the ancient manner with its related rules and regulations with a lot of perfection.
