The Perur Patteswarswamy Temple is dedicated to the famous and revered Hindu God, Lord Shiva. The main deity of the temple is referred to as "Patteeswarar" and his wife or rather Goddess Parvati is commonly known as "Panchanayaki". The temple is believed to be closely connected to the cosmic dance performed by Shiva and the idol which is worshipped in the shrine is known as "Swayambhu Lingam" which further means "self emerged".
