Chilkur Balaji Temple is located in the village named Chilkur in Gandipet in Hyderabad in the state of Telangana in South India. It is on the bank Osman Sagar Lake in Gamdipet. It is approximately 17 km from Mehedipatnam. The primary deity of this temple is Lord Venkateswara. This ancient temple is strongly believed to be constructed during the 1300s. It is popularly called as Visa God or Visa Balaji temple. It was built in a successful manner during the peak time of Madanna and Akkanna who were the uncles of Bhakta Ramadas. The uniqueness of this particular temple is that it doesn't have a Hundi in its premises. It doesn't accept money from devotees. There is no privilege given for VIP special entry or green channels. All the devotees are treated equally as done in Jalram temple that is located in Virpur in Rajkot in the state of Gujarat.

All the Hindu devotees who are unable to visit Thirupathi due to any reason can go to Chilkur to have the blessing of Sri Balaji Venkateshwara who is regarded as the Pratyaksha Daiva in Kaliyuga. During the festive occasion of Brahmothsavams, Annakota and Poolangi, a large number of devout worshippers with dedication and commitment visit this ancient temple in order to receive the special blessing of the primary deity and his consorts. People visit this temple with wishes in their heart. Once their wishes are fulfilled then they visit again to perform 108 times walk around the sanctum sanctorum. The popular wish made in this ancient temple is related to "Visa" for going abroad on work purpose. In order to overcome the personal and professional obstacles in life, devotees chant "Om Paramaathmane Namaha" for the purpose of Self Confidence, "Om Vashatkaaraaya Namaha" for the purpose of Success in Business, "Om Bhuthabhavanaya Namaha" for the purpose of Good Health and "Om Aksharaaya Namaha" for the purpose of Success in Studies. During the Hindu festive season, this temple is crowded with large number of devotes.

Chilkur Balaji Temple Mythology & History

According to the local legends, a religious devotee who used to often visit Thirupathi every year wasn't able to do so on a particular occasion because of serious nature of illness. He felt very bad and was totally sad. It is said that Lord Venkateshwara wholeheartedly appeared in his dream and mentioned that the lord is in the jungle nearby so the devotee needn't worry. The devotee immediately searched at the indicated site in his dream. He saw a big molehill and dug up that area. Accidently, his axe suddenly struck on the idol of Balaji that was covered in the molehill. He devotee also found blood flowing profusely from the wounded spot. This really surprised the devotee. Later he found a Swayambhu idol of Lord Balaji that was ideally accompanied by Sridevi and Bhoodevi which is a rare combination. These idols were successfully installed in the religious manner with the due rites. Later, a big temple was built for it.

It has the right blend of Dravidian and Deccan temple architectural pattern and style. The temple premise is large as seen in South Indian Hindu temples. The sanctum sanctorum is at the center of the temple premises with a huge Gopuram or tower. The story of the devotee and achievement of Madanna and Akkanna are cited n the walls of this temple.
