Jagpata Brahma Temple is almost 2000 years old and the temple is run by Sanyasi sect priesthood. The temple sanctum sonctorum has the idol of Mahapita Brahma and his second companion Gayatri. Lord Brahma is highly praised as in Hindu religion he is the sole creator of this universe and holds immense importance among the hindu deities. The idol of Brahma facing in all four directions shows Lord Supervision over his creation. The life size idol and its religious importance is well known since ages and the importance of the lord among the Hindu religion find a place much higher among all the deities.
No one can deny the fact, that According to Hindu Mythology, it is Lord Brahma who is the creator of this whole universe. It is also believed that Lord Brahma performed Yagnas where the temple at present stands and this holy yagnas was attended by almost all the Hindu god and goddesses. According to another Legend, it is said that the holy Pushkar Lake miraculously appeared, when the lotus flower dropped from his hand and fell in the valley. It is on this holy lake, thousand of devotees during the Purnima takes dip and offer prayer at the temple. The legends also says, once Lord Brahma was cursed by his own wife savatri as to perform Yagna, Lord Brahma married a local maid in order to fulfil all the formalities required during the yagna, as the wife of Lord Brahma was not present at the yagna. But later when Gayatri came she found out Savatri and infuriated Gayatri cursed Brahma , that he would not be worshipped by the people or the devotees so frequently as other god and goddess of Hindu and due to this, it is the only most famous temple dedicated to Lord Brahma where he is highly praised.
Though the temple is much old somewhat dating back to 2000 years, its structure dates back to 14th century. The well planned and architect temple constructed in white marble can be easily noticed with its tall high spire. At the main entrance one would find an image of a "HANS" and would also see a sliver color turtle that is embossed on the floor in front of the sanctorum. The turtle and the inner walls are studded with silver coins as well as intricately designed. The walls of the temple is beautifully adorned with the images of peacock and goddess saraswati.
The temple draws attention of huge number of devotees from across India during the Kartik Purnima that falls in the month of October - November. During these months, the sleep town of Pushkar comes alive as a grand Pushkar festival is organised. It is during this month, Lord Brahma performed yagnas and keeping in mind the holy season, devotees from all across India come to take a holy dip in the pristine Pushkar Lake and to offer homage to get blessing from the creator of the universe Lord Brahma.
