The second largest religion followed in India is Islam and it makes up for 14.88 % of the country's total population. Islam was first brought to India by the Arab traders in the early 7th century AD when they landed on the coast of Malabar in south western India. The northern part of India saw Islam through the conquests of Turkic invaders. Over time the religion flourished in the country and has led to the rise of many worship and learning centers that we all know as mosques. The first mosque in India is believed to be Cheraman Juma Masjid in Kerala. This mosque was built in the year 629 Ad by Malik Ibn Dinar who was the first follower of Prophet Muhammed and propagator of Islam in the Indian subcontinent. Over the course of time the religious places of worship have come up considerably. Each mosque has its own origin, style and architectural magnificence along with mystical miracles that are attached to it.

The popular historic Rangamati Masjid or Panbari Masjid is quite a well known mosque located in the north-eastern part of India and is regarded as one of the oldest mosques in Assam, India.
