Yana Rocks & Caves are gift of Mother Nature. These are naturally formed ancient caves in the Shyadri mountain ranges of Karnataka. These are very rare caves, when compared to other caves found in India. It is a great place to visit, which is located between the Sirsi & Kumta near Gokarna, Uttar Kanada District of Karnataka State in India.

Yana Rocks & Caves Architecture

Yana Caves are naturally formed caves on huge monolith rocks. These rocks are found in two parts. The first one is known as the Mohini Shikhara, which has an altitude of 90 meters. The second rock is the huge and largest one known as the Bhairaveshwara Shikhara; its height is 120 meters from its base area. These two rocks are very different when compared to other rocks found here. According to geologist, these were the ancient lime rocks, which degraded or eroded in the passage of time. The solvent minerals of these rocks may be eroded naturally in this dense rain forest area. The current shape like cave are the natural phenomena happened in this rocks due to degradation activities. There are also beliefs, that these rocks were asteroids fell from outer space, due to its distinguished properties. Since no other rocks are found with similar nature. The gaps formed in the natural erosion looks like caves. The bottom areas one can see the shapes of solidified molten lava. The upper parts are like rock slab and it has got tiny peaks, which resembles the great Himalayan peaks. Its inner portion is very beautiful with open skies in few areas and enormous path ways with in the rocks. These caves looks very pleasant in the rainy season, it grows few tiny vegetation on its rocks. This looks very pleasant to our eyes. A tiny rock is in the shape of Shiva Linga is formed here. A few drops of water always sprinkle from the top springs on this Linga. There are also metal and stone sculptors of Hindu goddess built here. The base of the rock has a recently built lord Shiva Temple. Its main entry has to be accessed from here. The reach this cave rocks, there are rock carved steps built here.

Yana Caves are very ancient one. This area was first surveyed by the British East India Company. The British official named Dr. Francis Buchan under took this survey in the year 1801 AD. He was surprised to see this magnificent rear rocks structure. He also found a tribal population surrounded these cave. It was a holly place for these tribal's. Lord Shiva is known to live in caves in the Hindu mythology. These caves also resemble the same like in the Himalayas. There is a natural inclination of day light falling on a Linga like stone here. This is also get showers from its natural spring water. To see this beauty many people's visit here. This is also a pilgrim place in the time of Shiva Rathri. Presently it is a great tourist spot for spiritual peoples. Many tourists visit here to have a holy dip in its cascade, which has medicinal values.
