The British during their reign in India established a great historical monument named as the Worli Fort. The fort is located in the prime location of India i.e. in the great city of Mumbai Maharashtra. In the year 1675, the Fort of Worli was established not by the Portuguese as mistakenly conceived but by the British. The Worli fort is located over the seven islands and was used to keep an eye on the pirates in the Mahim Bay. It is well situated in the north of the city and has its own past heritage.

Worli Fort Architecture

The Worli Fort of Mumbai was well designed and structured by an architect to guard the location from the attack of the pirates and protect the people. It was due to the great architectural design that the area was well protected and the people were able to monitor the movement of the ships in the sea. The entrance of the Fort is well ornamented with a huge glorious gate. There is a bell tower within the Fort to increase its beauty and architectural significance. Worli Fort has an arched gateway at its entrance and then leads to a tunnel. The tunnel further directs towards the beautiful interior of the Fort. The Fort was well designed by the architects as the interior of the fort leads to two levels. The central and the broad corridor add to the beauty and significance of the Worli Fort. From the entrance of the Fort a central corridor can be seen at a level. Moreover, at the higher level of the Fort as compared to the central corridor there is a broad corridor along the parapet. The beautiful sea of Mahim Bay can be seen from this corridor. The maximum area of the fort was well decorated with beautiful architectural designs and artifact. The Worli Fort has a small temple in its courtyard followed by a garden patch. The sea white shells were used to adorn the area, which add values to the structure. The Fort was however, ruined with time and hence was restructured in 2009. Due to the restructuring of the same it lost its architectural significance at large and looked more like Disneyland artificial fort.

The Worli Fort was its own history behind its construction. The main objective of British while constructing the fort was to protect the people from the pirate attacks. The pirate attacks before the construction of this monument was overlooked by the British, which was reducing its strength. The fort was established way back in the 1675 A.D. by the British rulers of then. The Fort was strategically created to reduce the enemy attacks. The bell within the Fort was set up for the people to ring during their time of need or happiness. However, it has been years that the bell of the Worli Fort has not rung. This implies that the good time of the Fort had passed. The Fort depicts the history of the people living in this area with fear and suppression for long.
