Warangal Fort is a master piece of Kakatiya architecture. This was the main fort for Kakatiya Dynasty. The entire structure is built on black granite stones brought from nearby small hills. To depict the kingdom's power many life size tuskers are carved on stones here. There are also small elephant's carvings on the wall linings and small structures. It has the biggest and largest arches made out of single stone. These arches are incredibly great works. Since, you can't imagine how such symmetry was carved out form such a large and huge single granite stone. One has to go here to see those brilliant giant arches. The 1000 pillar temple is the most fascinating structure here, which stands on thousand pillars. The stone carvings are well polished and the designs were mostly of natural elements. There are very good narrations found in this fort, which marks their glory and cultural activities.
Warangal Fort is of great historical importance. The Name Warangal means 'Single Stone'. This fort was initiated by King Ganapathi Deva and the entire fort was completed by her daughter named Rudrama Devi by the end of 13th Century AD. The statue of seated cow named 'Nandhi' in Hindu's auspicious beliefs and elephants depict them as a rich follower of Hindu tradition and culture. There are no exact dates known in the history of Kaktiya Dynasty. This fort was in the attack of Mohammed Khilgi many times. After a year battle this fort was captured by khilgi. Due to long battle, many of its structure were got damaged. There after the Kakatiya Dynasty lost its importance fading with time. The India archeological department has claimed it as national ancient monuments, and this fort is looked after by the archeological department of India. It has the largest collection of Single stone carving sculptors. The designs carved on these structures are really awesome to see. You can't compare this fort with any other in the world.
