The Rai Ka Bagh Palace is one of the tourist destinations in Rajasthan India. It is located in Jodhpur the second town of Rajasthan, which is a 200 km journey from Jaipur, a 587 km journey from Mumbai and 985 km journey from New Delhi. Jodhpur is on the National Highways connecting Mumbai and New Delhi. A domestic airport is there, which runs daily flights from Mumbai, Jaipur and Delhi on daily service. The palace is located near the Rai Ka Bagh railway station and it's more convenient to visit here first if one travels by train. Locally there are travel busses, rickshaws and cars. Peoples here are very colorful in their costumes and well behaved with foreigners. It is five hundred years old beautiful place built by 'Hadiji' the queen of King Jaswanth Singh I. Currently the palace is used as 'Income Tax Department' of Rajasthan State Government.

Rai Ka Baag Palace Architecture

The Rai Ka Bagh Palace is of great architectural Importance in India History. It was built in 1663 with the help of vast laborers, professional marble works and arts and crafts men. It is recorded that more than thousand laborers engaged to build this palace over a decade of time. They followed the typical traditional Hindu art forms and the design is put in to Octagonal shape for the first time in that province by Rathore rulers. This palace has a central dome shaped in triangular shape, surrounded by round small domes on the four corners of the palace. This structure is raised as such the inside of the building will get nice wind flow and sun lights. The palace is surrounded by huge walls built by large thick stones. The entire structure is raised on marbles and carving works. It has a pond inside to cater the need of water. The palace has narrow lawns and large rooms which are very spectacular in looks with antiquities.

Rai Ka Baag Palace History

The Rai Ka Bagh Palace has its own historical significance. This palace is also called as 'Aath Pehlu' by the commoners, which means the 'Octagon' in those days. Since the palace was built by Maharaj Jaswant Singhs Queen named 'Hadiji' and vast part of the palace was occupied by 'Maharaja Jaswant Singh II'. It was said that he loved to be here and most of the ruling time was spent in this Rai Ka Bagh Palace. The noted saint 'Swamy Dayanand Saraswathi ji' also came here in 1883. He gave his spiritual speeches from this palace ground to his devotees. The Maharaja Jaswant Singh II also invited him to his royal highness and took blessings from him. This palace was the longest place to live by a royal patronage to reside inside the palace.

The Rai Ka Bagh Palace is a historical monument to be visited if one is on Rajasthan tour. This palace is under tourism board and maintained by archeological department of India. Presently it's occupied by Jodhpur IT department office. To encourage tourism the Rajasthan government allotted its few part of the palace as museum and hotel rooms. Now with ample car parking facilities and luxury hotel set up tourist can rest there. It also has world class amenities surrounded by its places. The languages spoken here are Rajasthani, Hindi and English. Inside the museum you can find the articles of 16th century. One must visit this palace to view its charming works of the monument. Presently it is modernized to cater the need of tourist. The palace is lighted up by latest luminous bulbs.
