Patta Fort is perfectly placed on the Kalsubai range. Its top has vast plain grounds and this fort is built here at an altitude of 1392 meters. This fort is totally built with the granite stones and limes stones. These stone blocks were locally mined from the same hills. This fort ramparts are well built with many bastions around it. It has got many vigil gaps and turret points. This fort has got a natural steep cliffs on the both the side of this fort. This steep slopes act as a natural trench along with its main walls. The main gate of this fort is huge and beautifully designed. It has got few meters well built steps of stone blocks. On the inside of this for there are many complexes found which were built from 1-2 stories. It has got the main living areas with very spacious hall and rooms. This floor stands in well built pillars with a central dome on its top. These complexes are having doors and windows made of woods. There are a vast open places found here, which were used as staple ground and garrison purposes. This fort was one of the largest garrison areas in the borders of the Darna Valley. It has got a beautiful Devi temple; it is well built in the Hindu traditional art form. There are many caves carved on the huge monolith stones, these caves were once the resting place for the base villagers in the time of crises. There is a large pit made here to harvest the monsoon rain water, this pit was sufficient to hold water till the summer ends.
Patta Fort is also called as Vishramgad, since Shivaji Maharaj stayed here once. It is a 17th century fort used by the Pattekar. This fort and its mountain valley was the border of Maratha province in those days. This fort was attacked by the Mughal rulers of Delhi to bring under their province. But under the Shivaji army they always had a defeat. This fort lost its importance with the death of the Shivaji Maharaja and his son dint gave much importance to this fort. Later on the Mughals were able to capture this fort and made in their kingdom province. One of the caves has the Samadhi of a local saint who was also a known for his social service. His Samadhi is worshiped by the villagers here and the full moon day is an important day to be visited by them for prayers. Now this caves have became an important pilgrim place of this region. Currently many trekking and mountain raffling activates are conducted here privately. It is a protected monument and a heritage site now in the Maharashtra state.
Patta Fort is a must to see in the monsoon times. A beautiful natural scenic view of the Darna Valley and Darna Dam along with its villages can be seen from its top. In the monsoon times it looks very pleasant and many natural water falls can be seen here. It has three base villages and its peoples are very hostile in nature and help full in getting to top of this fort.
