Architecturally, the port has similar sort of structure with regard to other type of ports in India. It was entirely made taking into consideration the needs of the merchants and people who will be using the port. There are two specific berth at the Terminal II which became operational by the year 2001 for handling bulk cargo arriving from different parts of the world. There is a Special Economic Zone within the port which provided quality services at reasonable cost to the customers or the clients. There is also a double-stack container that has also been operational in the recent time which add to the success of the port. More than 60 thousand people which mostly contain migrants from different nation work and live in the port from the days of its inception. The Mundra port is extended towards 50 kilometers from the southern part of Anjar and 44 kilometers in the eastern part of the Mandvi region. One can see numerous metal work when visiting the port which is again quite evident with regard to such other similar structure in an around the world.
The place as well as the port has a rich historical heritage associated with it. It was in the year 1994, the Gujarat Maritime Board approved the project of setting up the port which was further named upon the city itself i.e. Mundra. By the year, 1998, a private company named the Gujarat Adani Port Ltd was formed in the port with the incorporation of several berths and terminals. Again by the year 2001, the Mundra port signed an agreement with the company i.e. GMB for development as well as operational effectiveness of the port. The company is also responsible for the maintenance of the port. Again in the same year, a private railway track was established that connects Mundra-Adipur with that of Vasco da Gama which was further incorporated with the main railway track of the Indian railway network. This was a considerable step taken towards the long term development of the port. Again in the year 2002, a private company i.e. Guru Govind Singh Refineries Ltd signed a contract with the Port of Mundra with regard to handle the flow of crude oil within the port. In similar year, another contract was signed by the port with the Indian Oil Corporation with regard to set up and maintenance of the port's mooring facility. The port further started Single-Point Mooring which became operational by the year 2005. Overall, though the port has only been established 15 years ago or so, there were many events and changes that took place in the same which were worth discussing.
Though the port is mainly used for the purpose of business and other important activities, it also served as quite important for the tourism sector as well. People from different parts of the world visit the port with the purpose of work and in turn they witness thee grandeur and architecture of the port. Hence, the importance of the port in various domains is quite apparent in deed.
