Medak Fort is of great architectural significance. Here the Hindu and Islamic patterns are visible. Since, the fort was built by Kakitiyan's who were basically followers of Hinduism and this fort was later captured by Hyderabad Nizam's. The later modified in its Islamic style of architecture. A notable mosque is built inside the fort by Qutushahi's in the 17th Centuries. The entire fort is built of Granite stones in a vast area of the hill top, which were locally available on the down hills of Medak town. It is a stronger fortification ever made by the Kakatiaya's. The craftsmanship of this fort is very dynamic style. This fort has magnanimous granaries, Military out posts and a grand house inside the fort. It has three main entrances which are very beautiful to look. This fort is on a high citadel, so as to command the province from a greater height and view the full glimpse of Medak from this fort. A pipe line is constructed to provide water supply to the fort is a very important part of its planning.
Medak Fort was built by Kakatiya Dynasty's King Pratapa Rudra in the 12th Century AD. This fort was first called as Methuku durgam by the kakatiyan's. It was the first ever place to command its region by Kakatiya rulers. It is where they lived in with large storage of food and water supplies. It also had special military outpost to safe guard its forts. The fort itself was in a safe citadel at a greater height and was difficult to conquer this fort many a times. It had modern war crafts like the cannons placed on the fort. There are sculptors of lion and elephants to show its power and importance of its Dynasty. From 17th Century onwards it was under the control of the Qutabshahi's of Hyderabad. This fort was mainly damaged due to wars and aggressions by the Mughals and the Nizam's. Medak Fort is a tourist spot and is open to public. It is the 12th Centuries oldest fort, which has not lost its shape. This fort is listed as heritage monument by the archeological department of India. It is a best place for fort lovers, students and history buffers. It is a very calm place on the hilltop. The best time to visit this fort is from July to February of a calendar year. Locally transport facilities are available to reach the fort by busses and auto rickshaws. Its local language is Telugu, but Hindi and English are manageable to go around the town. There are many budget hotels and resorts found here at very affordably costs.
