Mecca Masjid is the magnificent structure of Arabic architecture in India. It has the largest granite piece in the central hall which took a decade to complete this works. It took more than 8000 work force, 2000 cattle's including horse, elephants and bulls to bring granite stone from its northern query. This master piece of granite took a five year to complete and 500 craftsmen were employed to work 24 hours on this largest granite stone. Since the central hall is so large that it can occupy a mass prayer of 10,000 peoples. This hall is supported with few pillars only for that vast area. Its granite and marbles are well polished. On its roof there are well crafted balconies. It has tower domes on its all edges of the building. Four are large domes on the top of main hall building, these are cylindrical dome. Its arts and crafts are well carved all over the structure.
Mecca Masjid is of great historical significance. This Masjid is named as 'Mecca' since; the soils used to make bricks were brought from the holly place of Islam from Mecca of Arab. This was used in the central arch for having a holy presence of those soil fro Muslim peoples here. It took almost 50 years to build this great masjid. Emperor Qutb Shah of Golconda laid its foundation and this was completed by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in the year 1694. This Masjid is known for its hardship to get completed in a half century time. It was this excellence and expertise which made it in the current form. It is still standing as a powerful monument in Hyderabad. Inside the Masjid, there are tombs of Asaf Jah and Mahbub Ali Khan is laid to rest here.
Mecca Masjid is a heritage site in Hyderabad of touristic grandness. It is open to public from 8 am to 12 noon and 15hrs to 20 hrs daily. There is no entry fees charged, so far claimed from the public or the tourists coming here. People of all cast and creed can visit here. Only the dress code is to be followed like, no short fittings are allowed for both the sexes. Women's must wear a scarf around their head to enter the mosque. Also photos and videos are allowed here. All other religious people can take part in the prayer here. The Masjid is surrounded by its very old ancient buildings. There are traditional markets of all sorts of arts and crafts.
