Madhav Vilas Palace is located at Adarsh Nagar, Shivpuri Town, Gwalior District, Madhya Pradesh State in India. This beautiful palace is well placed in the forts of Gwalior, encircled with a scenic natural bio diversity of Lakes, forest, hills and plain lands. This is the summer palace of the Royal Sindhiyas and the hunting ground for the Mughals and the colonialist of those days in the Madhav forest area. This palace is well known for its scenic terrace towards the Madhava wild life sanctuary and it's well polished sheen marble floors.

Madhav Vilas Palace Architecture

Madhav Vilas Palace is well built in the 18th century with a combination of Mughal, Europe and Indian architectural pattern. The first and foremost importance of this palace is its color textured on its walls. It is good looking Pink mixed with rose color combination. It colors are still long lasting. These colors were prepared by natural vegetable and flowers extraction known in that time. It is a rectangle type three storied structure built inside the Gwalior fortified areas, which is highly safe at a high citadel in the Shiva Puri region of Gwalior. This building was built with a mix of granites stones, which is abundantly available there. Its upper portions are built of sandstones, woods, Iron and marbles. All around the palace there are marvelous carving works on stones and woods which are supervened on the all the edges and projected places. This palace has got many doomed pillared towers on its terrace. Its terrace is specially built to see few the dense forest reserves of the Shiva Puri ranges. In the terrace there is a small Vinayaka temple built here for worship, which is a Hindu Ditty. Inside there is a swimming pool with lot of stone carved desks around it. The entire palace is standing on the beautifully carved pillars of small and large round shaped pillars. It floors are still looking new, as it was the polishing effects of those time. A few architects, believe that it used such unknown polishes that it gets more shining with lapse of time. This has many large halls, courtyards, verandahs, balconies and special rooms built for royal ladies. Its interior are with few colonial touches on its furniture's and antiquities kept there. The craftsmanship of this palace is highly appreciable, which are breathtaking and awesome to look. There are beautiful landscaped garden all around the palace area.

Madhav Vilas Palace History

Madhav Vilas Palace was built by Madha Rao Syindhy for his immortal beloved queen named Sakhya Raje Scindia. He belonged to the Maratha clans who ruled the Gwalior region in the 18th century AD. This dynasty is named as the Royal Gwalior Sindhiyas. This palace was used as the summer palace and for adventure purpose for the Syndhiya clans. This palace hosted many colonialist to trek its forest areas and hunting on the wield beast found in the Madhava wild life sanctuary. The Gwalior fort became the commanding place e for the Syndhias after this palace was completely built. Still the devolvement of princely states after the Indian independence, these Syndhiyas family lived here in this palace. After Independence it was taken by archeological department. A few portion of this palace is also functioning as offices of the vigilance department of India.
