Padmanabhapuram Palace is a pure typical Kerala architecture, built in a traditional out looks. The palace is situated in a scenic area of Velli River with back drop of end parts of the Western Ghats. It is built inside an ancient fort area, which is around four square kilometer on the foot of Velli Hills. This is a four storied building, which is built out of granite stones, latrite stones, lime stones, woods and Belgium glasses.
Udayagiri fort is built on an isolated hillock with massive granite blocks with a lot of perfection. The tombs of the Dutch Admiral Eustachius De Lannoy who was a Dutch Admiral and his wife and son are found in the ruined fort's chapel. Therefore, this fort was once named as De Lennoy's Fort or Dillanai Kottai. The tombstone largely lies within the strong walls of the chapel which is in a ruined state. On the other hand, the inscriptions on these tombstones are carved in Latin and Tamil languages.
