Jal Mahal is a lake palace in Man Sagar Lake situated in Ashok Nagar, Jaipur City of Rajasthan State in India. It is the most amazing palace to be visited in Rajasthan. This palace is built on the center of a lake, a beautiful structure floating in the water with the back drop of Nahargarh Hills. The shadow of the hills in the lake water along with the palace is an awesome natural scenic beauty. This palace view from alongside road, which runs with the full length of the lake. By driving on this road on cant turn their eyes from the lake palace, its glimpses are so beautiful on travelling by this lake side road. This is also a forest area on the hill side with wild life reserve. Maharaja Jai Singh ji II used to hunt from here on the lake birds and wild animals of this forest along with his counter parts.

Jal Mahal Architecture

Jal Mahal palace is of heavy architectural importance. If you really visit here and see it, you can't imagine how they build this huge structure on this water bound lake. Only those peoples who built it know the secret of its edifice. Since many scholars agree with, the building may be erected when the waters were dry. On the other hand, it is believed that the fort was built when there was water in the lake. This question arises, because of its four story of the edifice is submerged in the lake water. This structure was built with red sand stone and marbles. Inside the palace there are marvelous marble works. It is designed and built on Mughal and Rajput architectural works. It is also said that this palace came into existence, when a dam project was laid on this lake area.

Jal Mahal History

Jal Mahal is of historic importance. It is the summer vacation palace for Maharaha Jai Singh ji II, here he hunted water birds in the lake. Went to hunting in the nearby forest. The Aravalli Mountains northern ends stretches nearby this lake. Man Sagar like is spread around 9.1 square miles. Here many migrated birds come yearly from other nations. White Flamingo is commonly seen bird here. It has dense forest reserve in the northern area. This forest is full of wild animals. In the 17th and the 18th century AD this lake and surrounding area was the hunting place for the Rajasthan royals. This palace is accessed by boats only. The fifth story of the edifice is floating over the lake water and rest of the four stories is submerged inside the water.
