Speaking from the visual experience one gets from seeing the palace, it can be said that the monument is one of the most beautiful in Gujarat owing to its magnificence and grandeur. It is known from historical records that the palace was built following a European style of architecture. There are beautiful fountains in front of the palace which is still in work in the present day context. Most parts of the palace is well preserved over the last 100 years. The front end of the palace faced the Arabian Sea which again keeps the surrounding environment of the palace soothing and calm. The pillars of the fort are neo classical which is one of its kind among the historical palaces of Gujarat. The interior of the palace has a semi-circular design which is a visual treat when seen from naked eye. There is a terrace in front of the palace which has roofs made of timber which further adds to the magnificence of the palace. It has seen that the palace has a contemporary resemblance to it in most of its sections. There are numerous entrances within the palace from which one can enter the structure which further shows the impact and influence of the European architectural design.
Historically, the palace has a rich heritage, which further augments its significance. It is known from historical records that the palace was built primarily during the reign of the last raja or prince of Porbandar. It was during the early years of the 20th century that the palace was constructed by Rana Natwarsinhji. The palace stands quite near to the Marine Drive within the city of Porbandar. The palace stand still and all its historical belongings has remained intact over the last 100 years or so. Rana Natwarsinhji was the last Maharaja of Porbandar after he became the ruler of the Jethwa dynasty. The palace is still quite new owing to the aspect that it was built only 100 years ago. The palace is believed to have a nostalgic touch to it which directly resembles with the choices of the Maharaja. The monument is surrounded by large number of gardens along with tress and other greenery. There are various portraits and sculptures in the interior of the palace which depicts the royal lifestyle of the maharaja of Porbandar during his rule and stay in the palace. It must also be mention that the royal family of the Jethwa dynasty used the palace as their personal residence over the years.
With regard to tourism, it can be said that the monument has several key features which has enhanced its image as an attractive tourism destination over the years. Again since the palace belongs to the near history i.e. only 100 years old or so, the people of the 21st century are able to relate better with this particular structure. Again the garden and the fountain in front of the palace add to the beauty of the palace and keeps the interest of the tourist further ensuring their repeat visit. Overall, the palace has lot to offer to the visitors.
