Noted as the residence of one of the greatest leaders of India during the freedom movement of India and is considered to be a National Structure, which is beautifully preserved near Gandhi Ashram. The small house is sober and simple in architecture and served as heaven for untouchables.
Like said earlier the concept of non-violent national movement and Satyagraha actually started from here for the ideas were started from here. MK Gandhi started his world famous salt march also from Hriday Kunj since he was still living here during that time. Now after having known that this place was MK Gandhi's residence the government of India has taken extra care to maintain this place and has declared it as national monument. This place is preserved by the Indian government at the Gandhi Ashram. Besides also being the national historical monument, it has also been a place where the lower caste people can live peacefully. It is a safe haven for them as outside they were discriminated based on their caste. Even today untouchables are mistreated in some parts of India and then there is Hriday Kunj where they are always welcome.
MK Gandhi was a person who vouched for Indian products or let's calls it swadeshi products and that is why also he was seen with the 'Charkha'. Today taking that as an inspiration, Hriday Kunj has become a place from where many beautiful handicrafts, spinning wheels and handmade paper are produced. Then inside of the place also has a prayer ground that can fit at least a 100 people. History says that MK Gandhi used to pray here with his followers.
Right next to the Hriday Kunj there is also a central library that has many books on MK Gandhi. People can also go and see the museum near by the monument that houses important and original documents of the Indian National Movement. There is also a very popular art gallery at a very close proximity that has art work from India's renowned painters and also the records of the contributions made by the native people during the nation-wide independence movement. A lot of people from around the world visit the place every year to learn more about MK Gandhi and Indian history.
