Gohar Mahal was built in a successful manner by Qudisiya Begum in 1820 on the banks of the Upper Lake in Bhopal. She is the first woman ruler of Bhopal. She is popularly known as Gohar Begum. In 1819, she successfully ascended the throne of the erstwhile princely state after her husband assassination. In 19th century, she was an unprejudiced woman ruler who directly rose to power without any struggle.
