Bastion Bungalow was built in the early (17th century AD) by the Dutch. They came here for spice trade with India. They built this Bungalow as their residence and office space. The entire building is built of woods, granites, mount clay bricks, clay tiles, lime stones and red sand bricks. The granites and mount clay bricks are laid on the main base foundations to last longer. Red clay bricks are found on the inner rooms and halls. Lime stone mixing some natural wax was the paste of cement in those days. There are unique wood works on the verandahs, doors and windows. The use of clay tiles in maroon color adds beauty to this edifice. This is a single storied Bungalow of its time in the Fort Kochi area. This Bungalow was built on vast land with lovely gardens around it. This is a European architectural marvel worth visiting.
Bastion Bungalow was derived name from the Old Bastions Church located near by it. This Bungalow was used by all colonial traders like 'The Dutch's, The Portages and by British' peoples. All of these foreigners altered this Bungalow according their style and needs. There are many wooden furniture's inside which were brought from Europe by sea route to Cochin. This Bungalow was believed to have an underground passage to the sea front to carry the goods secretly to its storerooms in those days. This Bungalow was the trade hub in Fort Kochi in the colonial time and served many international trades by sea routs from here. This is located on the Back Waters of Vembanade Lake in the Arabian Sea. This Bungalow was the famous back drops in many Malayalam Films and sequels. Currently this building is a residence place for the 'City Sub Collector'. This is a protected edifice by the 'State Archeological Department of Kerala'.
