The Norbugang chorten is absolutely a peaceful and vibrant place to be. So, for all the people who like to meditate, Norbugang is definitely the place you should be visiting. However, when you visit the Norbugang chorten then you can get to visit two other popular places of Sikkim at the same time, which are the Kartok Lake and the Dubdi Monastery. And if you are a trekking fan then you should by any which way not miss a chance of visiting the Norbugang chorten as after visiting the monastery you can also enjoy trekking at the very place.
The Norbugang Monastery is one of the oldest budhist pilgrimage of Sikkim as it was built in the year 1957. The noble person behind the ideology of the Norbugang chorten is Lama Dawa Norbu. You will be fascinated to know that the Norbugang chorten carries out the periodical ceremonies as per the Buddhist mythologies not just for one day or month but throughout the year. The Norbugang chorten follows rituals and traditions as per the Nyingmapa sect of Buddhism.
The Norbugang chorten has a Tibetan Style of architecture and looks very simple to look at. But it is the surroundings of the monastery which makes it an extraordinary budhist building of Sikkim. The Norbugang chorten has only a ground floor and the entrance looks very dramatic with two dears like structures positioned just above the stairs of the entrance. The Norbugang chorten looks very colorful as it has two pillars at the entrance adding that extra.
From outside you can observe two windows, one door, gompa above the ground floor, a wheel, two dears and colorful Tibetan style canopies.
One of the main attractions of the Norbugang chorten is the footprint of the famous religious dignitary Lama Latsun Chembo which is preserved there. It is the Lama Latsun Chembo who consecrated the first King of Sikkim and so by now one can understand how religiously important personality he was.
As mentioned earlier each day Norbugang chorten performs some or the other religious rituals which makes it a special one. And by this we can depict that each day at the Norbugang chorten is not less than a festival. And so we can understand that we do not need to wait for the festival season to be at the Norbugang chorten. Which is a great thing, isn't it?
However, on a deeper note when each normal day seems to be like a festival then you can only imagine the celebrations of an actual festival which happens to occur as per the Buddhist Tibetan Calendar.
