According to the mythology Goddess Yellamma was the daughter of famous king Renuka Raja. Raja performed a difficult meditation in order to get a sweet and beloved child, by the boon of God Yellamma was born by the flames of fire during the Yagna (a ritual performed to praise the God). Yellamma was an active, brilliant and energetic child. At the age of 8 she got married to the Jamdagni, they used to live in the "ramshrung" Mountains. After long time Renuka got familiar and close to her husband. They both had four sons namely Vasu, Viswa Vasu, Brihudyanu , Brutwakanwa and Ram bhadra. The youngest son was very active and restless he used to disturb the rishis and munnis, one day he was cursed and named as 'Parshuram' above all he was blessed by Lord Shiva and Parvati. Every morning Yellamma used to perform a daily ritual for her husband since many year, one day her concentration was lost due to 'Gandharva Angels' and that day the whole ritual was spoilt. Her husband lost his anger and cursed her to just go off from his site. After that she sat to east for medication in forest, Eknath and Joginath came into her dream and asked her to perform three days ritual with pure concentration in order to gain the mercy of her husband. On the fourth day when Yellamma came to her husband, Jamdagni ordered his all son to curse their mother one by one none were able to curse her seeing that Jamdagni cursed his four sons to become eunuchs. The last son Parshuram beheaded his mother at everybody astonishment. Her head multiplied into ten and got spread to different region.
