According to the book 'Ramayana' the princess of Ayodhaya Sita was won by Lord Rama by destroying the bow of Lord Shiva (Shiv Dhanush). The real struggle started by the announcement of Lord Rama's exile for fourteen year. This exile became more complicated when it turned to be the separation of Rama and Sita, when the demon 'Ravana' captured her. The struggle of Rama and the patient and perseverance of Sita they meet after destroying the Ravana by the help of Hanuman. Sita remained lawful and trustworthy inspite of this separation in Lanka.
This Sita festival is celebrated near village kelwara in Baran Dirstrict. This place is known as Sitabari, as this place is considered to be where Sita, the wife of lord Ram, was left by Lakshman from where the awful exile of Sita started. It is said that a stream sprouted from where Lakshman amid the arrow in the search of water for Sita. This Kund (Stream) is known as 'Lakshman Babhuka'. People of all community come here to take a holy dip in order to purify the mind and soul in this pious Kund, it is known for its therapeutic quality also. The kund has one gate which is called 'Lakshman Darwaza', the pilgrims pray here in the name of Lakshman and Hanuman whose idol is placed just beside the Kund. The Kund is surrounded by varendas by all side, there also includes several other Kunds near it, one corner we have, the 'Linga' of Mahadevji is placed, Sita Kund and Bharat Kund. They pay their esteemed regards to Tulsi shrine. It is considered to be the 'Ganga; for one who vannot go there for their Holy dips. The another main pilgrimage place of this festival is Valmiki Ashram, it is said that the twin sons of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita was born here, an unusual sight to this place is standing of one horizontal stone resting on two vertical stones.
