Detailed Information about Sindhu Darshan Festival & Its Importance


This festival is celebrated in Leh, Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir, the festival is held for three on the full moon day (or Guru Purnima). First time this festival was held on October 1997 since then every year the festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm and excitement. This festival is also an attraction for foreign and local tourists. River Sidhu is worshiped in this Sindhu Darshan, it is also called as river Indus. The river symbolises the courageous deeps of the soldiers and the people pay a great devotion to this harmonic celebration of festival.

The three days rituals are carried on a scheduled manner the first day people from various parts of the country bring water in earthen pot and immense in the river Indus, which symbolizes the diversity and unity of India. Many rituals and prayer are conducted near the bank of river Sindhu. Before all a reception is organisedfor all the pilgrims near the bank, about 500 seated places are organised by the Government of India. On the second day the inauguration of the festival on the banks of Sindhu at Shey, the programme is conducted jointly by the Ladakh Buddhist Association. After that the tourists are taken for the sight watching trip in the Leh, then a bone fire is organised by the tourists by the Government Department. Then on the third day cultural programme is organised by great enthusiasm and excitement.

The river Sindhu is signified for power and strength, in Indian civilisation the importance of this river is remarkable. The earliest civilization of Indus Valley Civilisation flourished near the bank of river. The main purpose of this festival is to peaceful coexistence and communal harmony. The Sindhu-Yatra gives an opportunity for people to wash off their sins and purify their heart with this pious and holy water of River Sindhu. Sindhu is Symbol for multi-dimensional cultural identity, communal harmony and peaceful co-existence. During the promotion of tourism in this place, a festival is organised in which the statue of brave soldiers are who fought for India are given a tribute for saving Siachin, Kargil and other places. The word 'Sindhu' in Sanskrit means 'Rig Veda', the words like Hindu, Hindustan are all derived by Sindhu and indus.

The festival symbolises of unity and strength of India. It spread the message of happiness and communal harmony in India. It symbolises the salute to the brave soldiers who fought for their motherland till their last breadth. It promotes well-being and happiness in every sector of the race for India and its people. This festival of love and togetherness was renamed as 'Ladakh Singhey Khabab Spring Festival' by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir and the Union Tourism Ministry in the year 2006. To increase the tourism in Leh region by this name.
