On the Independence Day the people of India pay homage to the freedom fighters of the Indian freedom struggle movement who sacrificed their life for the freedom of the country. The President addresses the nation through his speech in the two languages the national language Hindi and the international language i.e. English on the 14 August at around the 7:00 pm. On the morning of the 15th of August all the official buildings and the schools hoist the tricolor flag on the roof tops and the courtyards. The Prime Minister of India also officially unfurls the Tricolor at the Red Fort and gives a short speech on the occasion.
The children from schools and colleges participate in various programs all over the country. Various competitions and shows are held all round the country. The NCC cadets, scouts and school children organize the march past, the drills etc. Various sports finals around that time are made to coincide on this day. The shopping malls and the cinema tickets offer discounts for the people. The people come out of their homes around the day and cook various delicacies on this day or dine outside with the whole family to celebrate the freedom of the country and hence the self dependence of the nation.
The kite flying is very common across the country when the kites decorated with the tricolor are flown high up in the skies. Not just the traditional kites but here we find hundreds of kites flooding the skies that are of various shapes and the sizes symbolizing the freedom. The nation celebrates the national unity and the universal brotherhood where all the Indians come together. Even the small colonies organize the programs irrespective of the caste, creed, religion or the language. Patriotic songs fill the ambience praising the greatness of the motherland India that is so much prosperous, has fertile lands and that is filled with natural resources. The television also show the patriotic films and the programs all round the day that lay special emphasis on the major Indian victories in the wars in the pre and the post independence periods.
India has moved a long way after the independence year of 1947. The Britishers along with the other Europeans exploited the resources of India in the past. Despite that within a very short period of time after independence India gathered itself to become a fast developing nation and a strong economy on the face of the world filled with self reliance in almost every field.
