The word Chumpha means "opening of granary" which is celebrated after the harvest in the month of early December. It takes place every end of the year. It is Tangkhul Nagas of Manipur who celebrates this occasion and it is an important festival of them. They are tribes settled in the Ukhrul district and Somra hills (upper Burma) in Manipur. They celebrate the festival for seven days among which the last three days are the important. It is a great opportunity for women to enjoy the occasion with lots of Joy and cheerfulness. They have a good time with their families and their neighbors. This gives every woman a chance to experience and lay out the responsibilities which is the best way of preserving their art and traditions. Every woman are participated in the occasions and plays innumerable roles. The celebration ends up with a huge procession which is carried out to different villages and towns. It is Manipur which experiences uncountable festivals throughout the year and among all these Chumpha is the only festival where woman participate and offer different roles.
