Cheti Chand festival is celebrated by the Hindu community who called themselves as the Sindhi community in honour of the birth of their famous patron saint Jhulelal. The day of the birth of him is observed in a special way to honour him and is celebrated in the most auspicious way with pomp and gaiety all over the countries where the devotees occupy. Another significant method of keeping the day holy is that they worship water which they believe is the elixir of life and keep the day pure and holy. On this day people wash all their dirty clothes with water but without applying any detergent. The followers of Jhulelal observed Chaliho Sahab in which they are suggested to keep the forty days before the celebration of this festival in vigil and prayer. Besides these they also grow their moustache and leave till the festival without shaving themselves neither do they buy themselves new clothes during this month. The evening days of this month are kept in vigil by singing hymns in praise and worship to the might God Varun whom they considered as the diety of water and cosmic order. And after the long forty days of prayer and penance the festival of Cheti Chand brings new life, new hope and salvation to the people.

On the first morning day of the New Year is a day of cheerfulness and hope. You will see almost everyone with smiles wearing on their face, even the wrinkle faces of the old age people looks beautiful and bright on this day.
