Bakra Eid also known as Eid al-Adha in ancient days is an Arabic name meaning the feast of sacrifice. The feast of sacrifice also known by the name Bakra Eid or Eid al-Adha to Muslims is one among the oldest practicing festival of Muslims. According to the Islamic lunar calendar the festival falls on the 10th day of the Dhu al-Hijjah the sacred month in the Islamic calendar. According to the Islamic calendar the month of Dhu-al-Hijjah is considered as the sacred month and so Muslims all over the world go for pilgrim especially the eighth, ninth and tenth of the month. For the Muslims all over the world the month of Dhu-al-Hijjah is the most important month of the year and the period ending days of the month that is the eighth, ninth and tenth are kept as an the most important days and so you will find in almost all the Muslim countries like Pakistan observed holidays during these days.
Muslim devotees from all across the world at the end of the month gathered together in Mecca to meet Kaaba and celebrate the biggest festival of Eid-al-Adha. This festival is celebrated for a continues three days during which animals are sacrifice and the pure blood that flows out of the lamb is offered to God and the rest of the meat is cooked and distributed among to the devotees. During this festival a lot of charitable works are also done, donation and giving alms to the poor and needy are among the chief program included for this festival.
A brief legend about the origin of this festival draws back during the early years before Christ. According to the holy book of Quran in Islamic tradition the practice of slaying animals for offering during worship started from the first days of our fore father however commemorating a special day for this celebration was not organised. It was only after Abraham and his story that the commemoration of the festival started practicing. It was said that when God had tasted Abraham on his faith, God asked him to sacrifice his only first born son to him and to his surprise Abraham's faith in him was so strong that he was even ready to give up his own son's life for him that pleases him and he ordered Abraham the lamb to be slayed instead of his son thus Abraham obeyed. From then on God blessed Abraham and told him that he will be blessed with countless sons and daughters like the sand and his generation will last forever. Till today the faith and trust of Abraham is honoured by all humanity and he is called as the father of faith. The feast of Bakra Eid is also a festival in commemoration of him and his faith in God is followed by all the Muslims and Christians worldwide.
