The fire agate is cryptocrystalline quartz that is prized for its rainbow coloured glow that arises from within the stone. The stone is said to be formed when hot water that contain colloidal silica and iron oxide seeps into rock seams and cools to form layers. The iron oxide is what gives it its fiery look and thus the name Fire Agate.
