Isha Yoga Center, founded under the aegis of Isha Foundation, is set at the foothills of the Velliangiri Mountains near Coimbatore in southern India. The Isha foundation is a non profit organization that was founded by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev in the year 1991. The main purpose for founding this ashram was to foster spiritual growth for people and also their wellbeing through yoga and outreach programs. An example of such program is environmental rejuvenation. The main activity or the core of the activity of the foundation is a customized system of yoga called Isha yoga. There is also 3 to 7 day introductory program known as Inner engineering, introduces guided medications and a powerful inner energy process for deep inner transformation. Located at the base of the beautiful Velliangiri Mountains in Tamil Nadu, this centres offers a wide range of courses. Some of them are as follows - Inner engineering, hatha yoga, yoga for children, advanced medication programs, scared treks, mind and body rejuvenation retreats based on Ayurvedic principles.

The Isha Yoga Centre is spread over an area of 150 acres in the lush land at the foothills of Velliangiri Mountains near Coimbatore. The land where it is located is a part of the Nilgiri Bio-reserve and is surrounded by thick forests. Abundant with wildlife and enriched with different varieties and species of plants this place is truly blessed with nature. It is a powerful stana or a centre for inner growh where people from different parts of the world come to enjoy and benefit from all the four major parts of yoga which is as follows - gnana or knowledge, karma or action, kriya or energy and bhakti or devotion. The main attraction of this place is the architecturally distinct Spanda Ha and garden. The hall is about 64000 sq feet in area and is used as a main venue for many activities that are conducted by the ashram.

The yoga centre also has Dhyanainga which is a unique and a powerful energy form sitting under a pillar less 250000 brick dome. It also has a theerthakund which is a sacred underground water body. Thousands of people come here every week to meet and meditate which helps them to find inner peace and also for their wellbeing. There is also an Isha Rejuvenation Centre and Isha Home School at the centre. Along with this there is a Vanaprastha accommodation which provides comfortable and affordable accommodation options to the people and their families who come here to meditate and rest. There is also a large residential facility for international visitors who are mostly Brahmacharies, full time volunteers, guests, visitors etc. who make the ashram a vibrant hub to conduct many activities. This is a perfect place to pursue one's growth, both spiritual and physical.

Programs at Isha Yoga Centre

There are various things that one can do out here. Some of them are as follows -

Isha Yoga Programs - This program along with the Isha Rejuvination retreats are offered a year at the Isha yoga centre. It is a three day program where one comes to experience the inner engineering retreat. It is conducted every month and people who come here experience many opportunities for inner growth and exploration. Along with this there is also hatha yoga, shoonya medications and advanced programs like bhava spandana and samyama.

Aum Medication - Everyday between 12:30 t0 1 pm the aum mediation is conducted which provides an opportunity for visitors to initiate the Dhyanalinga. It is a very simple meditation which can help strengthen one's physical and mental constitution and brings about a tremendous balance and well-being.

Isha Crafts Stall - Next to the Dhyanalinga there is a timeless courtyard which houses the Isha Craft hall. Out here you get a lot of things like beautiful handmade pillow covers, medication cushions, delightfully colourful totes and purses, t-shirts, books of Sadhguru, DVD's, Cd's and many more. What you get out here is made exclusively by the volunteers of this ashram and all the crafts are made by the local volunteers. This project also supports many other projects of the Isha Foundation.

The foundation also welcomes and encourages highly motivated individuals to come and apply for different volunteering activities. Even though the needs of the organisations vary from time to time, the ashram makes every opportunities to match the skills, abilities and interests of the volunteers with the needs of the organisation. If you are here for a short visit then you can volunteer in activities like Dhyanalinga and kitchen activities. If you are here for long term then you can be a part of the Isha projects which requires a longer time of dedication and commitment.

Celebrations at Isha Yoga Centre

There are many celebrations organised out here which gives the visitors many reasons for celebrations. One of the main functions of this ashram is Mahashivratri which is celebrated in the month of February or March. On this special day prayers and offerings are made o Lord Shiva, who is considered to be the Adi Guru or the very first Guru from whom the tradition of yoga originates.

The founder of this Ashram, Sadhguru is a yogi and a profound mystic. Along with this he is also a visionary, humanitarian and a prominent spiritual leader. He is a contemporary guru who moves with the changing times but is strongly rooted in his culture and wisdom. He works tirelessly for the physical, spiritual and mental wellbeing for all his devotees. He has a profound experience of life which makes him a master of all the mechanisms of life, the same of which he distributes to his devotees. He is an unusual mystic who wears a loincloth as well as jeans, walks barefoot in the Himalayas as well rides a BMW motorcycle on the expressway. He makes a departure from all the customs and rituals and makes an attempt to bring about meaningful impact in the life of his devotees. He is quite a popular figure both at national and international level and is regularly followed by national and international media. He provides regular darshan to all his devotees who come from all parts of the world and country to meet and learn from him.
